The Special Needs Adoption Program (SNAP) is
program that works to speed up the adoption process for kids in foster
care, and to make it affordable for prospective parents willing to
open their homes to special needs children. These children are largely
African-American (or those with any minority heritage) ages 5 and
older, but they also include white youths ages 9 and up; sibling groups
of three or more who need to be adopted together; and children with
emotional, physical, or behavioral challenges. SNAP provides help
for parents during the adoption process and beyond, by offering education,
resources, and services such as post-placement assistance; therapy
with professional counselors for parents and children; crisis intervention;
and a personal caseworker who is available at all times. Porter-Leath
Children's Center is a non-profit, social services agency which has
been serving children and their families in the Memphis area for over
150 years. |
